Small and Simple Bonus

Happy Sunday,

Can you believe it I hear it is sunny today in the U.K. where as I woke up this morning to torrential rain here!  Today's scheduled post failed and, for some reason I cant fathom, I cant find it!  So I hope you don't mind today I am posting a spare!  I have had this post prepared for weeks however it has not gone live as I just felt that the card was too simple.  However needs must and I promise in real life it is a very sweet card which would work for Men and Women for any occasion however now I am looking at it again I think I may need to make a complex box for it lol

My worldwide, craft world, campaign to get brown accepted is back on the schedule I'm afraid!  I love chocolate, brown, Kraft and all autumnal shades! I may even have started to convince Mrs Duck that they can work!

Today's card is a small and sweet just a simple card made using Core'dinations card and spellbinders embossing folder.  All I did was emboss and sand the card stock and add a double mat before running a patterned DoCrafts ribbon down one side.  The card base is a sheet of Kraft card that I embossed in the same folder before foam mounting the main element.  A simple sentiment from an old spellbinders die set and a knot and a very simple card made.

What a Difference a Year Makes!

Happy Different Saturday,

As today is the celebration of a whole year of Something Different Saturdays I thought I should  show one of my favourite projects from the year along with the much awaited tutorial.  When I realised that this would be the 53rd something different today I wanted to make it a little special and whilst it should be new the new project planned will have to wait a couple of weeks!  So whilst it may not be yours, it is my favourite project of the last year.

I can't believe that I have been coming up with a different paper craft project every week for a year and whilst, sometimes, its a struggle to come up with ideas I still have quite a few left in me yet.  This anniversary has kinda snook up on me so I am planning a retrospective of my favourite (OK I should say projects but we all know I love a good box) projects.

I made my first version of this for my friend Hazel when she returned to the U.K. as I was saving it for something special, click HERE to see the original post..  That one contained a bird in a cage in the centre.  This one has a paper crafted iris made using the new Spellbinders D'Lite iris die.

As this is a special Something Different I thought I would add the video tutorial for it on today's post, click the next picture to see how the basic frame was made.  I will shoot a second video on the box construction as well as the flower for next week.

for now Enjoy...

More French Chic?...

Happy Friday,

I thought it was time I tried a card using and inspired by the Spellbinders French Harmony die that is not in Navy Blue!

This is in my favorite shade of teal and an off white.  Now whilst the card may look white it is actually a little on the cream side, hard to see I know.

Very simple card highlighting the spellbinders French Harmony die cut in the white(ish) card and inked through the die in a matching chalk colour.  I foam mounted this onto the plain teal card and therm layered it on a few more sheets of the alternating colours.

The front piece is made by using the spellbinders embossing folder with the letterpress technique and the same chalk ink (as a side note I find that chalk ink works better for this technique, perhaps because of the slower drying time)  I cut a strip and mounted this again on alternating colours.  The ovals are cut from the new spellbinders oval die and are mounted onto a matching velvet ribbon (part of a set from DoCrafts I bought for last Christmas and never used)

Finally a bow and a simple Wendy hatpin completes the french provincial look.

A Little More Complex!?!

Happy Thursday,

I have been busy beavering away remaking cards this week today's creation is not a remake but a scrap card!  What I mean by that is that this card is made using the scrap pieces left on my desk from another project.

Now you may be able to work out which of last weeks posts this was made after just in case however click HERE to see the far simpler card that inspired this one ...

I really feel I should explain this card a little as this original on Friday had little description and resulted in loads of comments on the background paper I used.

Firstly The background is embossed using the trailing leaves folder from Darice (I think) which I embossed and shaded using a matching chalk ink pad.

The frames and borders are all cut using the new Spellbinders labels 35 die which I have die cut and ink shaded to create the apertures.

The sentiment tag is the negative space left from die cutting spellbinders centre die from Tranquil moments (as this is a scrap card this was left lying on my desk)  I foam mounted this onto the ginger card (sorry I used leftovers there is no more!)

The foliage is, as always this week, Sue Wilson's Faux quilled die and the roses are simple felt circles spirals cut and rolled into roses.

I simply arranged scraps of card, ribbon and lace onto a card blank (again cut for another project) and voila a complex card that was kinda thrown together from what was on my desk.

Keeping it Simple...

Happy Wednesday,

I thought I would carry on from where I started  on Sunday by showing a range of simpler cards that don't take much time or work.  I like to use, as you may have noticed older dies and as much as possible one die per card.

This card is made surely from Grate Works die from Spellbinders.  All i did was cut the die twice out of the base white hammered card making sure there was room for another die cut in the centre.

I added one of the cut shapes, with small foam pads, in the middle before mounting the whole piece over a sheet of brown card.  I then folded a wide brown satin ribbon (Chino shop bargain) into pleats and stuck this down the side.

Finally I added a few matching gems and foam mounted the front piece onto a hand cut brown card blank with a matching white mat.

This is a simple card and would, hopefully, be suitable for a mans card which is something I know lots of people, myself included, have difficulties with.

Another Two'fer...

Happy Tuesday,

The winner from yesterday was the second card (I breathe a huge sigh of relief!) and so I thought I would repeat the exercise today with a card that again I made a few days ago and just wasn't happy with.  I am sure that we all have pieces that just don't seem to work for us.

Firstly This version which is actually the remake!  This is made using the technique outlined in my video tutorial on the spellbinders Filigree delight. Check out the videos tag above to see how this was cut.

Now I know I have changed this in the same manner as yesterday however it worked once!

I also changed the base card for the same Navy blue from the original white background.

The next few pictures are the original card, let me know which you prefer!

Enjoy...

Nothing Exciting...

Happy Monday!

Firstly I would like to thank you all for the lovely comments you all make, I was really surprised how many people liked the simple card I showed yesterday.  I have to admit that this was made a few weeks ago and has been ready to post since then however I was worried that it might be considered too simple.  Since I received the first comment this morning (yes i'm writing this late Sunday) I have been beavering away as I wanted to produce something special for today however after I photographed it I didn't like the look so started adding to it!

Here is the first attempt....

I used my new favourite Ginger coloured card (don't worry this is the last of this colour I have in my stash!)  I die cut my favourite Sue Wilson background die and cut it into strips, mounting them onto larger pieces of the ginger.  I mounted four of these onto Kraft then Gold Mirror card before adding a few more layers to the card blank.

The centre panel, new spellbinders,  is above 2 pieces of a matching grosgrain ribbon which I tied at the side before adding a couple of hatpins

There was just something about it that didn't work in my view so I took it back to the desk and carefully added a few bits....

It seemed that the first attempt with this card just felt unfinished and a bit messy, so I added some of the beautiful Faux Quilled foliage from Sue Wilson.  The roses are, again, made by the wonderful Wendy next door.  By using the same colour as the background die cut for the leaves it felt like it balanced better.

Now its up to you let me know which you prefer and why?!?

Enjoy...
