Something Different Saturday

Hello,

Last Saturday I promised to show some of my own box's or at least ones I have designed from Scratch!  I made cards and Boxes to fit them all in the same shade as last weeks creation (click HERE to view)

I am very short on time so the tutorial and sizes will have to wait for next week however they have been made using the same die as last week , namely Spellbinders Enchanted Labels 28.

Firstly A rectangular box with lid...

Next the cards...

Finally a folding box with room for the cards and envelopes...

Thankyou Spellbinders

Hi Guys,
Todays card was made using my , newly restored, Grand Calibur.  Today I received, free of charge from the U.K., a new handle for my GC!  I have to thank firstly all of you for your help and suggestions and then Spellbinders for their speedy assistance.  It is very rare that a company will supply you a spare part, free of charge, based on  your word!  (They even paid the postage here to Spain)

Todays card is the first one I have made using my new handle and its is, of course, a thank you card!

There are a lot of pictures of this one because I really like it.

I have mixed a selection of Spellbinders dies along with Weathered Clock by Tim Holtz for Sizzix.  It may seem strange to use this die however I wanted a large circle frame and this was the only one I had, may have to place an order for some Grand Nestabilities when I find them cheap enough!!

This card is made in the filigree technique with a new die, Spellbinders Resplendent Rectangles I received last week but was unable to use.  As I have used quite a few dies I have listed them at the end.
Enjoy...

Silver Wishes

Good Morning All,

A couple of days ago my mum asked for a card for her friends Silver Wedding Anniversary.  After spending too long thinking what to make I came up with the idea of making a filigree card actually in silver.  Now not being a silversmith, nor being able to afford that quantity of silver, I decided to try Mirri card.  Much to my surprise it worked!

I cut the base using the filigree technique in a heavy weight silver card (had to be very careful photographing) using Spellbinders Enchanted labels 28  The insert is cut in white glitter paper (by hand so possibly a bit wonky I don't decoupage as not keen on my scissor work)

The final layers are from antique frames and accents, I cut the frame into two and stuck the 2 pieces on either end of an oval that I hand studded (never again  it takes an age) with pearls.

The sentiment is stamped in detail white embossing powder on the centre oval from spellbinders radiant rectangles.  A bow, hatpin and copious pearls stuck everywhere and voila my version of Faberge!  Enjoy...

Lilac Flowers

Hello All,

Today I thought I'd share a card that expands on the flowers and foliage I made in white last week in this post.  I got a lot of questions about what I had used for foliage, well the answer is the flourishes form Spellbinders Gold Elements One.

The reason why I don't always answer questions in the next days post is that due to work commitments several of my posts are written on a Sunday (my one day off) and so, with my evening job, I don't really have time to change or add anything before the post goes live.  Monday mornings my craft room looks like the end of day at the Harrods sale as I do a lot of crafting on Sundays!

In this card I have used the letterpress technique (see yesterdays post of the tutorial) to give the flourish some lilac highlights.  I also rubbed the same ink, I use a chalk eye for this as it has a lovely soft finish, on the petals to give some definition.

The remainder of this one is made up with other pieces from the gold dies however the sentiment is stamped, in the same chalk ink, on the centre oval taken from Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles.

The sentiment is 2 separate pieces I stamped together from an old Creative Expression set I've had for years.  Enjoy...

Tutorisl Tuesday

Hi Guys,

Loads of you asked for a tutorial on how to do the letterpress technique with your spellbinders gold dies.  Also Ita asked how to make the letterpress embossing folder background, therefore Tuesdays Tutorial.  I first showcased this technique with this post here which was used to show how I take my photos.  Although I don't like to copy cards I have made I thought the best way to meet what everyone asked for was to recreate the card but in different colours!

Sorry this picture is not to my usual standard I took it quickly!

This is a photo heavy post so may be worth putting the kettle on (or in my case opening a fresh bottle of Pepsi Max!)

Foe the background gently colour the depressed section of your embossing folder with your chosen ink pad, I use chalk eyes for this as it gives a gentle colour and doesn't stain the folder too much.

Run this through you GC or other cutting machine as per directions for standard embossing.  You will get a sheet like this...

Next lay your die onto scrap pare and dab the ink pad over all of the die.  Don't worry it looks messy but only the cut sections and debossed bits will mark the die cut.

I used the Spellbinders Gold labels four for this then placed a matching standard labels four die inside to create a frame.  Run this through your cutting machine...

Once cut I colour between the edges of the die to create a deep coloured frame like this...

Finally I cut three different sizes of the frames, these were then used to create the card through overlapping the different frames, using foam pads loaded onto the background, and adding a sentiment.

I hope you get the idea from the pictures I know the written instructions don't really explain everything.  I am going to try a video tutorial someday I promise!!!

To help I have added a picture of the original card, enjoy...

Lady Annes Challenge July

Hello All,

It's time again for Lady Anne's Challenge and this month I worked hard to deliver something that suits my style and the brief!  This is what I came up with...

This is my version of a screen card although its hard to see I used white ribbon to attaché the three panels together so that it stands and folds up to be posted.

The beautiful butterfly is a digi stamp from this months sponsors Fred She Said.  They have some beautiful stamps, most of which are available plain as well as coloured.  They also have cutting files for those of you lucky enough to have a computer cutting machine.

This months prize is a $10 gift certificate which will come in handy as it is difficult to only choose one design!

The theme for July is Monochrome, I chose to go with the classic black and white (and shades thereof!)  Monochrome means using different shades of one colour so your entries don't all have to be 'Blanc et Noir'!  Enter the challenge here...

Todays card is made in three panels of Core'dinations card stock in shades of grey and black.  I embossed these with the Do'crafts secret Garden embossing folder and sanded away the colour.  On the white Core'dinations cardstock the underlying colour is black which really highlights the embossing.

I mounted these onto grey then black card and cut a topper for the panel using Spellbinder Antique Frames & Accents die.  This is the frame section I simply cut the top off!

The butterfly and backer is from our sponsors and comes on a sheet with just the butterfly and flowers giving you decoupage heads something to go at!

Finally I mounted the three panels across 2 strips of grosgrain white ribbon leaving a 1cm gap (using my cutting mat as a guide) to make the screen.  I love this design of card and you can be sure I will feature more options!!  Enjoy...
