A Teal Anniversary

Today offering is a simple Anniversary card, I know Teal is not an actual anniversary (as I work in the card and gift shop I kinda know all the official ones)  But I just loves the colour...

The background white card (Anita´s I Think)  is embossed with the Papermania Secret Garden embossing folder  The topper is cut in Core´dinations card in teal with the Antique Frames and Accents die by Spellbinders.  This was sanded and a piece of Embossed Parchment attached behind the ´window´  This was placed over a piece of the teal card stamped with text and heat embossed in white.  I mounted the whole lot onto the card with Foam Squares.

The sentiment is stamped in the same way and heat embossed, then cut out with the tag die from the same set.  I placed a second die cut behind which I stamped with flourishes in a teal momento Ink.

Finally a piece of green ribbon and a stamped bird fussy cut from a Papermania urban stamp, might do for an Emerald anniversary however as that's 55 years not sure when I´ll need one!  Enjoy...

Sunday Mojo #5

This week was again my turn for the Mojo Challenge, as Wendy traveled back to the U.K. I knew it would be difficult for her to work with whatever I gave her.  Then I came up with the idea of FOUND.  This weeks challenge was to use the two cream cards provided along with a strip of Foam Pads and any items she found on her travels.  No other craft supplies were to be used.

This is what I came up with, What I Found was:-

A Piece of string
Some Plastic leaves (found outside work from the bar refit next door)
Fresh Flowers - Weeds from in front of my Apartment
Bottle tops & a Cork
Sea shells (there's loads in the gravel garden next to my apartment)
A flyer found in my mailbox

I'm not keen on the bottle top one but love the simplicity of the shells,  Enjoy...

Something Different Saturday

I have always been really inspired by Christine Emberson's Friday Die Day on her blog where she shows how to use a different Spellbinders Die every Friday.  I wanted to do something similar, not Dies (as I could never match her level of skill or dedication) but Something.  Having spent a lot of time thinking, most of it in bed as I wait for the alarm to hit 7am, I have come up with Something Different Saturday.

What I want to do with this is to showcase a different handmade item each week, whether that be a box, card fold, plaque etc.  Therefore every Saturday I intend to show a project that is a little different from the standard card fare!

I love reading tutorials supplied by so many excellent crafters however when the post has loads of photos it can be quite annoying to me as I like to quickly view the project, then spend time following the Tutorial separately.  I intend to show the item and a brief instruction on my main blog page, then the tutorial will be linked and listed on my new tutorials page giving you the option to look at either just the item , just the tutorial, or if you are a glutton for punishment both!

#1 is today and I have been busy beavering away at a handmade writing set, and here it is!

The box is made from pieces of chipboard cut from old hard backed books that are losing their pages and so are thrown away at work, my own basic idea of recycling!  The pieces of card are covered in DoCrafts capsule collection papers in Browns and beiges, how they are stuck down makes the covers.  The Dream is cut in Core'dinations cardstock from an old Sizzix die mounted on the centre section cut from the Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight Die ( my current favourite)  This is then edged in Old Linen Distress Ink and finished with Cream / off white ribbon.

The Inside of the set contains a writing envelope box containing sheets of cream writing paper with matching cream envelopes tucked into the lid.  The cover of the paper pack is covered in matching paper from the same collection, the great thing about these papers is that you get patterns, Stripes and checks that all blend together.  There is also a mini notebook and pencil, made with more matching cardstock with the pencil held in its own ribbon tag.  The pen and ink bottle are gifts I received from a friend upon return from Venice!

I hope you agree that this is Something Different, the Tutorial for the box and pad etc. can be found Here.  Enjoy...

Tim Holtz(ish)

A totally different offering today, this card is based on the designs, and dies, of Tim Holtz,  I love his stuff and distress Ink is a real gift to crafting.  I have tried quite a few of his style of shabby designs however they always seem to come out a bit dark for me.  this Gatefold card however is one I really like.

The main element is cut with the Sizzix Tim Holtz sewing room die in 2 layers of cream and brown card.  |The wings are cut with a sheet of copper as is the heart.

The inside has another of the mannequins cut in book paper to show a different approach.

A little different from what I have been making but a change is as good as a rest!  Enjoy...

Cherish #2

Same Paper, Die and Sentiment...
...But a totally different card!

Whilst I was making yesterdays card I had some of the paper left over I thought it would be interesting to see how different I could make this look with the same items but with a different accent.  The Bird Song paper (First Edition) looked great on white however when I matted it on shocking pink it seemed to pull out the pink on the flower making the different look I wanted.

This card was cut with the largest of Spellbinders Labels 4 dies this was turned vertical and backed with the pink, whilst the cut shape was matted with the same colour and fussy cut I used the 2nd smallest die to make an aperture in this and the pink layer underneath (hope you're following this!)  The sentiment was stamped on the cut out then die cut with the smallest die, matted the same way and adhered onto a matching colour organza ribbon.  the frame was foam mounted the sentiment placed in the middle. with a simple knot in the ribbon tied around the frame.

I finished the card off with  2 strips of the Spellbinders antique frames and accents border die to highlight the pink cut in Core'dinations and sanded.  Finally a little Distress Ink to further bring out the pink.

I hope you agree that this looks very different from yesterdays card even with them side by side on my desk It doesn't look like the same paper!  Enjoy...

Cherish

A very simple card today, sometimes it's best to keep it simple to show off a paper, die cut or both!  This card is made simply with a First Edition paper from the bird song pack as the backing paper mounted on white glitter paper.  The same paper was used to double cut a heartfelt creations die (borrowed from Wendy next door)

The sentiment is cut from Spellbinders labels four, the outer ring with dies 1 and 2, the background with just size 2 which creates a frame.  This is mounted with foam Tape over the stamped sentiment.  Finally I fussy cut 2 butterflies from a piece of cream card embossed with a DoCrafts embossing folder.  These were inked and gold wire as the stamens (don't think this is the right word but stuck)

Close up of the sentiment.

A simple card that to me looks very intricate, Enjoy...
