Its CE Design Team time!

Happy Wednesday,

Thanx for all the lovely comments yesterday I didn't have a rest as I booked to run a couple of workshops at Keep On Crafting in Bury St Edmonds!  I had a fab day with a wonderful bunch of ladies which is a good as a rest!?! lol

Today is the design team spot for Creative Expressions and although we have started a new month and the theme has changed I really haven't had time to create anything with the new goodies (sorry)( however I didn't think you would mind i I went with last months die cutting team stash as I had so much fun with it!  Once again I have used the snowflake background which is my go to die for all Christmas cards this year I think.  Today I have teamed it with Vintage gold and coconut white as well as a little velum for the flowers.

I cut the background in coconut white and left a large border around it, one of the benefits of this die is that there is no outside cutting line so you can make the border any size you want, great for making boxes!  I cut the background with the largest central oval in place to make an aperture.  Next I cut the next size of oval in vintage gold card and foam mounted the background over this.  This gives the beautiful old gold card just poking through the filigree and snowflakes.

The next layer I cut just using the central, filigree, section from the die in white and foam mounted the whole piece over this.  Next I made a frame in gold and one in white slightly (2cm) larger and foam mounted these above.

To make the flowers I stamped the shaded poinsettia stamp to die for onto white velum using perfect medium and heat embossed these using cosmic shimmer bright gold detail embossing powder.  I stamped each size of flower three times and cut the out with the matching die.  next I simply pinched the leaves (or petals) and made 2 flowers from the varying sizes of the stamped dies cuts adding a gold circle dazzler in the centre.

Finally I added some Olympic gold PVA pearl dots to highlight the detail on the background and finished.

  1. Morning John, a beautiful card I love everything about it.

  2. Stunning card John. So elegant and could easily make batch cards with this design. Thanks so much for sharing and have a wonderful day.

  3. Morning John, another cracker - wish I had your talent (even a little bit would be nice - ). In one of the pictures the card looks green, at first I thought that it was 2 different cards but they are not, it would look just as beautiful in a green as well as gold wouldn't it.

Enjoy Wednesday whatever you are doing, stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  9. Hi John,
This card is beautiful, I love this die and the poinsettia stamp. But so far even though I ordered the stamp last time you did your demos at Daisy's they couldn't get the stamp, I had to buy the filigree poinsettia die set instead. I still love the stamp.
If you know where I can get it please let me know?
I plan to do some stamping sometime today, we have a clear up morning as the workshop roof leaked in the heavy storms yesterday evening and have a nice little lake on the floor & lots of stuff soaked, thankfully my craft stuff is inside the house. We are more fortunate than a lot of people as there was a lot of flooding around the Solihull area..

    Have a great day

    1. Hi, have you tried Icon uk, they stock most of Sue's dies and stamps, it's an online shop.

    2. Maggie...sorry to hear that you have suffered from the storms, I pray that the clean up process will soon be sorted for you. Thank goodness your craft goods weren't affected...take care & wishing you well...Love Beth B x x x

  30. Hi John

You often say that Sue's dies do all the work for you but they also need that talented someone to create a masterpiece such as you have shown us here today, it is without a doubt a stunning masterpiece & Sue must be really proud that you are showing her dies off to such perfection, naturally I also include our Julia into this equation because she also designs beautiful cards & also gives so much of her valuable time for workshops & demos etc...where would we be without our fabulous quad of designers? I know my mojo would be on permanent walkabouts; Lol

John, I know your time is taken up but I was wondering if you received my email re your Facebook

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful delight with us today John, take care & wishing yourself & our wonderful friends a lovely day Love Beth B x x x

  34. Hi John. This is beautiful, I love the vellum poinsettias. Have a good day. Take care x

  35. Awww, this is a beautiful card! Thank you for making cards without sentiments too. There are no sentiment dies or sentiment stamps in Faroese, so I really need inspiration for cards like this one and the ones you made on Hochanda. It's a pleasure to watch you craft. And you are so confident on air. Well done!

  36. Beautiful John. I love the vellum poinsettias.
    love Val x

This card is so pretty. I love how you made the oval stand out just enough to make the card really pop. I sure hope to win one of your cards as I love them all.

  41. Hi John,
don't apologise -this card is LOVELY. I like the colour combo of gold/cream, but it also looks good in that greenish shade that one of the photos has come out as (at least on my computer).
    Best wishes, Rose

  42. Hi John, lovely card, I have this die and I think it just shouts Christmas, Love how you frame your cards.

  43. Hi John, a stunning card ! Have all the poinsettia dies but find
some filigree ones really trying to cut out so might have to
get the stamp instead. Take care,
    hugs Maria x

  44. HinJohn
Another stunner today using the background. Funny but the first picture looked like you've used the vintage gold. However, the second one looks greenish. Looks lovely anyway.

Absolutely love the poinsettia flowers, really love this one.

  51. Hiya John,
What a stunner of a card. I can't get enough of your Christmas designs at the moment, it's giving me bags of inspiration for when I get round to starting my own. I just adore the delicacy of the vellum poinsettia, they are the perfect finishing touch.
I am super impressed at how hard you work John, you have a dedication and passion for your work and your joy of crafting positively radiates from your every pore. You are a pleasure to watch and I look forward to seeing you again on our tv soon. Will you be joining Sue on her Hochanda shows? Will there still be shows on C&C?...greedy I know, as if you both don't work hard enough as it is:-)
I've had a busy day visiting my friends new puppy called Lulu, she's a shit su...apologies for spelling errors.....and utterly adorable. She licked my Bengal on the nose and he wasn't very impressed:-)
I had a bit of a blowout on some festive dies yesterday so I am super excited for their arrival- just like a kiddie on Christmas Eve! I didn't draw the snowflake background out of my hat- my preferred method of choosing thanks to Beth B- but I am sure that I could manage something similar with the mini frosty background in the meantime! Hope you manage to put your feet up tonight John, you deserve it!
    Crafty love and hugs,

  52. Hi John, gorgeous card! Love the gold on the poinsettias and the added gold pearls too. Just stunning! There would be many a friend or family would love this landing on their doorstep xx "Thank you John" xx Love Karen xx
